HOTELS/MOTELS PC012-St. James Hotel, Davenport, Iowa., 1900-1909
Scope and Contents
Located at the intersection of Front (now River Drive) and Main Streets. It was built in 1875 and remained in use until after 1965. Originally it was called Grant's Hotel but the name was soon changed to the St. James. The original 72 rooms were later expanded to 150. The hotel boasted that the full views of the river afforded pleasure and comfortable temperatures, the presence of electricity and proximity to the boat dock at the foot of Main Street.

Front: Exterior of hotel on corner of block. Some awnings are open on first floor. A fire hydrant and waste can or mail box are on the corner. "St. James Hotel" is spelled out on both sides above second floor windows.A horse and buggy is parked on the street. Publisher code: 6687 appears in upper left corner. Publisher: A.C. Bosselman & Co., New York. Made in Germany.
