Scope and Contents

This group photograph of boys and girls posed on the steps of what is likely Sudlow Intermediate School in Davenport, Iowa was taken by the Eckerman Photography Studio. "A.I. Naumann" is written in cursive on the mount board which is damaged with a stain along the bottom edge and several tears. Names are written on the back of the board which were used to located an item in the Davenport Daily Times, January 20, 1933 page 12 stating these Sudlow graduates would be sophomores at Davenport High School soon.

Biographical / Historical

Ralph Cadwallader's name is one of many handwritten on the back of this image that are listed in the Davenport Daily Times on January 20, 1933 as a ninth grade graduate of Sudlow Intermediate School in Davenport. It is possible he is marked with a red arrow pointing to his head in the back row.

Cadwallader was the son of Ralph and Dena Cadwallader. Born in 1917 in Davenport, he went on to serve in the Army Cavalry and won appointment to West Point from which he graduated in 1943. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, earned a master's degree and law degree, and retired as corporate patent counsel at Edgerton, Griemerschausen & Greer Inc. in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He died August 31, 1995.
