Scope and Contents

This collection is made up of images pertaining to Marian (Boldt) Edwards and her family, Davenport, Iowa's Oral-Deaf School, and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf-Davenport Division No. 59. Both original photographic prints and digital images are included documenting people, awards and certificates. Group photographs both formal and casual as well as digital images of the original Division Charter and members fifty years later are highlights. Identification is available for the image of the members upon the fiftieth anniversary of the Society's Davenport Division.

Biographical / Historical

Marian D. Boldt was born to parents Harry and Florence (Freymann) Boldt in January of 1924, joining one older brother, Duane. Marian attended Davenport's Oral-Deaf School as a child then went on to learn the cabinet making trade. Her 2012 obituary described her as a master cabinet maker. Marian married Myrlin Edwards, also deaf, in June 1947 and the couple had a daughter. The family was very involved with the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf-Davenport Division No. 59 which received their Charter in 1916.
