Scope and Contents

This is a collection of wooden plaques and one wooden jewelery box presented to George E. Otte for his service to the Davenport Public Library over many years. Tributes are for the 1992 Outstanding Trustee, 1992 Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame, the Board of Trustees President from 1984-1988 and for dedicated service 1989-92.

Biographical / Historical

George Emmett Otte was born July 2, 1921 to George and Emma Otte in Morse Bluff, Nebraska. He marrie Mary Ann Shimerka April 17, 1947 and had four children.

His love of books fostered a 21-year association as a Davenport Public Library Trustee, where he served a term as President, followed by four years of service to the Iowa Library Commission. In 1992 he received the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame award for his contributions on a statewide level.

Mr. Otte passed away in May of 2006 in Davenport, Iowa after a short illness. He was a World War II veteran.
