Biographical / Historical

According to the history of the organization provided by the donor:

"The Genealogy Workshop was founded January 12, 1972 at the home of Darlene Paxton. The purpose was to promote, foster the exchange of information, experience with ideas pertaining to genealogy. Members were people who had taken Darlene's Beginning Genealogy Class. Membership was limited to 20 people. We met in members' homes once a month and brought books and magazines for members to see. We had a hostess who provided the place and a co-hostess who brought a dessert. We each brought our own sandwich to eat for lunch. The group had by laws and officers.

Darlene Paxton taught Beginning Genealogy classes. The group did various indexing projects and helped when the LDS Library was filming Scott County Iowa records. We had to be invited to become a member. The Group purchased books and microfilm from their dues to donate to the Scott County Iowa Geneaalogy Society for their Library. The Library was first at the Bettendorf Public Library and later at the Davenport Public Library Special Collections. As the membership declined, as[sic] started to meet at restaurants for lunch."

Original members are listed in donor's documentation.
