Scope and Contents

This collection contains items from Dorothy Willers and James (Jim) Plagmann during their time at rural Scott County and Davenport schools, graduating with the Davenport High School class of 1948. Items include certificates, diplomas, commencement announcements as well as programs from Monroe School Dad's Club, Davenport High School and various music festivals. There are a number of programs from Davenport and Bettendorf events at Adler theatre, Bettendorf folk festival, and Colt Baseball. Booklets from their 50th class reunion are also included.

The military series is made up of several mementoes of Mr. Plagmann's service in the Korean War 1951-1953 including a collectible coin and medal from the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, a hard cover book from Camp Chaffee, Arkansas 1951 Combat Command A 5th Armored Division, a booklet stamped RESTRICTED titled Korea 7 January 1951-7 July 1952 24th Engineer Contruction Group Eighth United States Army, a newsletter called Black Sails dated April 20-28, 1953, Photo Pack No. 2 - 36 Bombing Planes of the Allied Nations, a booklet from 1947 called 1st Air Division Okinawa, a small book called Songs the Soldiers and Sailors Sing from 1918-1919, and the bronze Korea marker that would be for a grave stone.

One unique item is a copy of the log of John Ludtke detailing his experiences from World War II, specifically the battle of Iwo Jima. One small picture of Ludtke is included. His connection to the Plagmanns is unknown.
