Bridal Portrait by Roberta Hostetler Bushnell

 Collection
Identifier: 2023-75

Scope and Contents

This accession consists of one photographic bridal portrait. It measures 11 x 14" and is black and white. The original enclosure has the name "Roberta Bushnell" on the cover. The bridal gown appears to be satin and the bride is wearing elbow length gloves. Her veil is held in place by a lacy tiarra. The bride is seated and it is a profile portrait.

Based on the bride's attire and hairstyle, a time frame of the 1940s seems to be indicated.

The item was found in the attic of a home at 1516 East River Drive in Davenport. Donor believes the Offerman family purchased the house in 1951, and states the bride is not from the Offerman family. Surnames of Gilcrest, Shuler, Rendelman and Bendixon were suggested by the donor as possible family connections.

Roberta Hostetler Bushnell and her husband Robert moved to Des Moines in 1933, so it is possible the portrait was taken in Des Moines. It is also possible the bride knew Mrs. Bushnell from her residence in Davenport.
