Biographical / Historical

Buchanan School was built and opened in 1904. The architect was G.A. Hanssen. It had twelve rooms, was two stories tall, had an attic and a basement. The last time the school appears in Davenport city directories is 1939.

Photo belonged to Romola Cheney Tulloch, daughter of Burton Henry Cheney and Anna Susan Moore. Burton Cheney was a Congregational minister who served the church in Davenport for a time. Romola was married to David Valentine Tulloch and she died October 10, 1988 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Romola's younger sister, Edith Cheney Sears, died 2006 in North Dakota.
