Scope and Contents

This collection consists of bound volumes, photographs, maps and atlases. Images pertain to Einfeldt family circa 1890-1920. Some maps are miscellaneous Scott County, Iowa atlases and maps. Brief Inventory: 1 oversize flat box containing 22 Einfeldt family photographs 5 oversize volumes including Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps Vol. 1 and 2 Scott County, Iowa atlases and miscellaneous maps

22 images of various dimensions taken by several Davenport photography studios as well as some unidentified and some real photo postcards. Someone had previously written numerals on the back of the images. These were noted in the hopes that at some point there may be more information located.

20 Family on burros by large rock Paul Goerke & Son; Manitou, CO information printed on back; Man, woman, two girls on burros posed in front of large rock formation Black & white mounted 9 x 6” Paul Goerke & Son (1890’s-1907) Manitou, Colorado; Photographers who bought a large track of land soon after moving to Manitou full of highly eroded rock formations known as Mushroom Park. This area near Silver Springs was already popular with tourists and they constructed roads and trails through their property to encourage visitors. They did not charge admission to walk or ride through this unique landscape but the Goerkes reserved all rights to take photographs there. Biographical / Historical

Based on information written on the back of some of the images, research was conducted in an effort to compile tools for identification. The Emil and Bertha EINFELDT family figure prominently in the photographs. An EINFELDT resided on Summit Ave. [now 13th Street] Davenport, IA from 1888 – 1961.

Emil Einfeldt was the son of Christian and Anna Katherina [STEGELMAN] EINFELDT. Emil was born in 1854 in Holstein, Germany and died 28 July 1944 in Davenport, IA. He was married in Davenport in 1881 to Bertha SIEMSEN. Bertha was born in 1861 in Holstein, Germany and died in Denver CO in 1928. The couple had 6 children, 5 of whom survived to adulthood: Ernest E. [1883-1965] married Goldie NORMAN in 1909 George D. [1885-1972] married Melia JOHNSON in 1913 Louis W. [1891-1949] single Gertrude A. [1893-1973] single Alice W. [1896-1995] single The Herman CC and Laura BECKMAN family were neighbors across the street from the EINFELDTs on Summit Ave.

Pierce School was located just down the street on Summit Ave.
