Biographical / Historical

The Davenport Woman's Club (DWC) was organized in 1910. They met at Unity Hall located at 10th and Perry Streets. Their object is to promote soical and mental culture, further education and make itself a power for good in the community. The club's motto was "Where there is no vision, people perish." The initiation fee was $1.00 and $1.00 for the yearly dues. The initial membership total 270 members its first year.

The DWC had seven departments organized with the goal of securing programs focused on Music, Art, Literature, Public Affairs, Law and Justice.

The DWC's membership grew rapidly by 1917 there were 708 members. Membership peaked during 1945-1946 with 1,005 members. During this year, a Fine Arts Department was created combining the following departments: Art, Literature, Drama, and Music.
