Scope and Contents

This collection of nineteen 8 x 10” color print photographs shows the return visit of former President Jimmy Carter to the Quad-Cities on August 21, 1979. Images are of the President, Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, and the crowds awaiting them as they approached on the Delta Queen riverboat on the Mississippi River. There are several images of a band playing.

Printed on Kodak paper Photographer: E. A. Metzger Each print has purple stamping on the back, some of which is lighter or darker, some that is bleeding. The following paragraph is stamped on each print:

"Publication of this photograph is not authorized unless approved for release by a public information office at any Army activity or installation and so noted hereon. Its use in commercial advertisement must be approved by the Public Information Division. Office of the Chief of Information, Department of the Army, the Pentagon, Washington D. C. If published, please credit “U.S. Army Photograph”."

The images have numbers in the lower right hand corner that were already there when processed.

Biographical / Historical

Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for work to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.

Carter made his first presidential fund-raising stop in Davenport, Iowa on August 21, 1975 and returned exactly four years later as President with Mrs. Carter and daughter Amy. They cruised the Mississippi River aboard the Delta Queen, stopping in Davenport on August 21, 1979 to make speeches, appear on a radio show, tour the Deere Administrative Center and attend a reception at a local residence.
