Biographical / Historical
Ralph Hans VOLQUARDSEN (1899-1918) and Florence A. (VOLQUARDSEN) TANK(1897-1998) were the children of Herman Frederick and Agnes Mary (SASS) VOLQUARDSEN. Ralph is the subject of many of the photographs. He went into the military in World War I and there are several pictures of him in uniform. He died of the Spanish Influenza in 1918.
Florence married William C. TANK in 1931 in Rockford, Illinois. They had no surviving children. Florence became a bookkeeper for Petersen-Harned-Von Maur and lived to be 101 years old.
Herman Frederick VOLQUARDSEN was the son of Hans Friedrick and Frederika H. (SCHROEDER) VOLQUARDSEN. Born in Germany, they immigrated to Davenport about 1882. Herman had one sister, Amanda Margaretha Elise (VOLQUARDSEN) LANGE.
Herman Frederick’s wife was Agnes Mary SASS, daughter of Henry and Anna (PUCK) SASS. She was a life resident of Davenport. There are several images that were labeled by the donors as being Agnes Mary.
