Biographical / Historical

The 8th Iowa distinguished itself at the Battle of Shiloh as well as at Spanish Fort in Mobile, Alabama. Much of the Regiment was captured in the Hornets' Nest salient at Shiloh, but most survived captivity to be paroled and exchanged later in 1862.
