Biographical / Historical

The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church was a conservative denomination formed in 1782 in Pennsylvania. The Davenport effort began in October 1854. In 1858, there was a merger, forming the United Presbyterian Church of North America. This helps explain the name change in 1858 of the Davenport mission station to United Presbyterian Church of Davenport. The UPCNA was ethnically predominantly Scottish although it grew more diverse over time. A look at the Davenport register indicates this was true in Davenport as well with names like MacDonald, etc.

The Congregation became known as McClellan Heights United Presbyterian Church when they completed their new building in May of 1906 at the corner of Jersey Ridge Road and Fulton Avenue.

After years at that location a new church building was again proposed and in 1960 the process was completed. The new location, on East Pleasant Street, made the name of the church inappropriate, and the name New Covenant United Presbyterian Church was chosen. That name was changed in March of 1965 to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church which has sustained itself until its closing in December 2008 due to its small membership.
