Biographical / Historical

Ament, Inc. worked on a number of projects across the Quad Cities and the Midwest region. Ament, Inc. began as Ament Engineering founded 1983 by Michael E. Ament, PE (a professional engineer), and it was headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. (1) It specialized in traffic and civil engineering until it merged with the long-established Engineering Associates in 1993 to form Ament Engineering Associates, Inc. Mechanical and electrical engineering were added with the merger, positioning Ament as a source of "Total Project Solutions" for its clients. In 1999, Ament added expanded even further by adding architecture design to its services and became Ament, Inc. Ament continued to grow its services in the Chicago area in November 2009 with the addition of Peter F. Olesen and Associates, Inc., an experienced civil engineering firm specializing in family entertainment center design. In 2014, their name has evolved, from Ament, Inc. to Ament Design, thus becoming an all-encompassing sign firm for its clients. (2)

From Ament Design’s website in 2015, it states, “We have been instrumental in the design of many notable public improvement projects and major private developments in the Midwest. These projects include educational facilities, child care centers, municipal buildings, corridor studies, roadway extensions, water storage and distribution, residential subdivisions, industrial complexes, recreational trails, and municipal civil engineering. Celebrating our 30th year of service, it is our mission that: ‘Ament Design is your trusted resource driven to provide remarkable service and innovative solutions to achieve superior results.’”(3)

Ament, Inc.'s experienced staff of professional engineers and technical designers provided a full complement of transportation, civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and water/wastewater services from offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Moline, Illinois. Ament also provided land surveying, right-of-way acquisition and construction administration services. Ament served clients who represent primarily state and local government, institutions, and industry.

Ament's modern and fully automated offices allow our staff to put PC technology to use in every phase of project management: planning, design, construction administration and job cost control. Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) technology allows us to swiftly evaluate multiple design alternatives in order to develop the most functional and cost-effective solution for your engineering project. The firm's professional engineers were licensed in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Wisconsin. (4)

According to an article in the Quad City Times published on October 4, 2020, Willett, Hofmann & Associate, Inc acquired the company.
