Biographical / Historical

Francois LeClaire was a fur trader and blacksmith, who assisted John Kinsey of the American Fur Trade Company in bulding Fort Dearbornd in 1809 on the shores of Lake Michigan, where present day Chicago stands.

As the for blacksmith, Francois was asked to fashion a padlock for the fort's main entry gate.
