Scope and Contents

Originally made up of approximately 13 boxes of items purged from the collection of the Rock Island County (IL) Historical Society in 2018. Other repositories received items pertinent to their locale, ex: Henry County, IL. The Society kept items pertaining to Rock Island County, IL and gave DPL anything pertaining to Iowa.

Includes articles from Illinois newspapers The Rock Island Argus and The Dispatch and The Leader, a Bettendorf publication in association with the IL firms. Newspaper clippings, photographic prints and negatives, flongs, plastic plates, steel plates, and ephemera/documents pertaining to local events and subjects.

Purged items that did not pertain to people closely connected to Davenport or high interest local areas.

Majority of collection is “mug shots” that accompanied announcement of a promotion or retirement, entrepreneurs, landmark anniversaries and birthdays, candidates for local elections, mayors, local artists and authors, and so forth.

There were very few / no images associated with surnames beginning with: J, Q, T, U, V, X, Y, Z

Materials are available for use in the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center only.
