Scope and Contents
This 3x5" daily pocket diary documents daily events in Keokuk County pioneer life such as farming and timber activities, weather, neighbors, farm animals, etc. Copies of Newton's other diaries dating 1858-1870s can be found at State Historical Society of Iowa and possibly Keota, IA library. See also the Iowa Journal of History and Politics "Pioneer Experiences in Keokuk County" July 1954 pages 327-342.
