Biographical / Historical
Mabel Phyllis Ashdown (1881-1971) married Peter Nicholas Mahlstedt in about 1906 and had their daughter Lucy in January of 1909 in Rock Island County, IL. The couple resided in IL, but Mabel worked at Iowa Soldiers' Orphans' Home from 1935-1938 in the kitchen. It seems reasonable to assume that is when these images were taken. Peter died in 1946. Mabel married a second time in 1958 Frederick Peter Hahn. Mabel's daughter, Lucy, married a TATE and lived until 2002. The daughter of Lucy is the donor.
