Graf Zeppelin over Davenport
The Graf Zeppelin was a German dirigible that completed a 20,000 mile journey around the world that started at the naval air station in Lakehurst, New Jersey on August 7, 1929 and concluded in the same place on August 29, 1929 after stopping in Germany, Japan and Los Angeles. The aircraft was commanded by Dr. Hugo Eckener. Former mayor of Davenport, John Berwald, was instrumental in arranging the craft's to visit Davenport.
This set a record for flying around the world.
Grand Theatre - Berkell Players 1926-1934
Digital scans of two scrapbooks of images, ephemera and newspaper clippings pertaining to the Berkell Players, a local theatre group. Charles Berkell was manager. Scans were printed and bound for the public shelf.
Grayson Battery B National Guard Photograph collection
This is a collection of World War II era group portraits of National Guardsmen from Scott and Clinton counties and several images of departing at the Davenport train station in March 1941 to go to training in Louisiana. The negatives were used to create new prints and efforts were made to identify people featured. Bill Wundram wrote a column which was published in the Quad City Times August 17, 2000 regarding this collection. Only two men were identified: Ely Barssarich and Leo Beulon.
